Edel Quinn was born in Kanturk, County Cork, on 14 September 1907. She left Ireland in 1936 to build Legion of Mary branches across East Africa while battling tuberculosis. She died in Nairobi on 12 May 1944, leaving behind hundreds of new councils and a life spent wandering with little more than a dilapidated Ford and endless courage.
