Kernanstown held an abbey at Viewmount where three towers still stood about 1760, according to Brewer in Beauties of Ireland. The name may point instead to St. Kevins Abbey at Chapelstown, but the image remains vivid: a religious house tall enough to be counted from a distance, not buried or forgotten.

Brewer (in Beauties of Ireland) stated that there was an abbey at 'Viewmount' and that three of its towers were standing about 1760 (Kelly 1972, 45).
