O'Sullivan (1955, 2) mentions an early monastery or hermitage, possibly associated with St Mochua, which he located on the E side of the Owennagearagh River. There are now no visible remains of any ecclesiastical site here; this area is swampy and covered with overgrowth. There is a holy well (vol. 3, no. 9259), named 'Tobairin Beannuighthe' on the W side of the river.
