Situated close to the summit of a low hill overlooking Bantry Bay. Included as an early ecclesiastical site by Hurley (1980, 61). Large, roughly circular enclosure visible as shadow site in aerial photograph by Dr. D.D.C. Pochin Mould (1981, 107). Traces of the levelled enclosure are discernible on the ground, mainly to the N of the cross fragment (CO118-031003-). Burial ground (CO118-031002-) and bullaun stone (CO118-031004-) in centre of interior. Four shaped, deeply-grooved stones were noted within the enclosure which Hourihan and Hourihan (1979, 72) suggest may have 'functioned as hinge-stones/corner stones in some form of structure no longer in existence'. Similar stone noted in Caheravart early ecclesiastical enclosure (CO102-024002-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
