Killasona HouseCountry house · 73 yd

Explorer Tom Killasona House is in an eternal feud with the rain, and frankly, the house is losing because it’s getting soaked. It stands there looking majestic but wet, like a dog that just fell off a boat. Pop by and tell it it's looking weathered.

Enclosure in Kilfintan Lower or CrancamEnclosure · 1062 yd

Explorer Tom Enclosure in Kilfintan Lower Or Crancam sits on a ridge with the best view of nothing. I bet it would order chips without ketchup, just like me. Make up your own legend and I'll swear it's true.

Toneen LodgeHouse · 1.2 mi

Explorer Tom Toneen Lodge in Toneen is extremely suspicious of the postman, who probably just delivers bills to its owner constantly. The symmetry is perfect, which makes me think it’s hiding a really messy secret inside. Take a breath of that air, inhale the suspicion deeply.

Coolamber CastleHouse, fortified house · 1.9 mi

Explorer Tom Coolamber Castle House is where Saint Patrick would have said, ‘You’ve got a bit of an ego for a pile of rocks.’ Cromwell besieged it, so it’s definitely seen some things. Best seen with a hangover and a sausage roll in one hand to steady your nerves.

Sheela-na-gig in AbbeylaraSheela-na-gig · 2.1 mi

Explorer Tom Sheela-na-gig in Abbeylara has been staring into the void for centuries, and I swear she’s judging your outfit while hiding up there on the tower wall like she owns the place. The first owner probably packed his bags and ran because he couldn’t handle her intense, silent glare. A proper spot for a flask of tea and a big think.

Moat of GranardCastle, motte and bailey · 3.0 mi

Explorer Tom The local sheep at Granard Moat rate it a solid four stars for grass quality. Richard de Tuit built it in 1199 to fight rebels, but now it’s mostly a nap zone. Stand back, squint, and it looks like a castle.

Granard MotteMotte-and-bailey castle remains · 3.0 mi

Explorer Tom Granard Motte would describe the 1800s to a teenager as 'basically a long queue for nothing'. It's just a big mound pretending it remembers something important from the castle days. Spot the oldest stone and give it a name.

1798 MonumentMonument · 3.1 mi

Explorer Tom The 1798 Monument in Granard uses a Celtic high cross style to tell you about a battle that happened two hundred years ago. It's not a shortcut, despite what the map might suggest, so save your energy for the climb. Look up at the carvings and feel history-heavy.

CarrickMountain / peak · 5.0 mi

Explorer Tom The whole parish argued about Carrick for three days straight because one man said it was a mountain and another insisted it was just a very aggressive hill, which caused quite a bit of shouting. In the end, they compromised by calling it a peak, which satisfies no one but keeps the peace, so you might as well enjoy the view while everyone else is still mad. A handy spot to stretch your legs and你的

Clonfin Ambush MemorialMemorial · 5.1 mi

Explorer Tom Clonfin Ambush Memorial in Longford is secretly proud of the one potato that survived the battle unscathed, hidden under the stone. It’s a weird little hero story nobody talks about because it’s too silly for the official records. Perfect detour when your satnav has a total meltdown and gives up on you.

CarrickabaneMountain / peak · 5.2 mi

Explorer Tom Carrickabane has strict rules for visitors: no whistling after dark, no stepping on the left side of the path, and definitely no asking it what time it is because it gets shy. It's a bit high-maintenance but worth it if you want to feel like you're sneaking into a secret club where only serious hikers are allowed in. A good place to forget your phone for ten minutes.

Watty's RocksIslet · 5.3 mi

Explorer Tom Watty's Rocks has had so many former names that the signpost has given up and just writes 'Ask Watty' on it. It’s got a long list of exes, each one more dramatic than the last, and it wears them all like badges of honour. Ring your granny and tell her where you are.
