Dolmen

On SE-facing slope of Knocknagoun Mountain overlooking basin of Dripsey River. Comprises gallery (L 2.6m; Wth 1m at W, 0.8m at E end) aligned NW-SE, represented by three sidestones to N, four to S and backstone outside gallery walls at E end; single jamb-like stone stands inside W end of S side. Remains of closely-set outer walling at E and S sides. Gallery covered by two overlapping roofstones. Traces of possible mound to W and S. Portal dolmen; likely dates to the Neolithic period (c. 4000–2500 BCE). Its orientation and construction reflect early megalithic funerary practices in the region.
