Derek John Christopher Byrne

Derek John Christopher Byrne was born in Monkstown, County Dublin, on 17 January 1948, the starting point for a life that would cross oceans to serve as a Catholic bishop in Brazil. He studied at St. Patrick's College, Kiltegan, was ordained in 1973, and spent decades moving between Ireland, the United States, and Mato Grosso before leading the dioceses of Guiratinga and Primavera do Leste–Paranatinga until retiring in 2023.
