Cullen Graveyard

Church of Ireland graveyard, with earliest headstone dated 1766, situated within early ecclesiastical enclosure. Earth and rubble stone embankment surrounding graveyard. Raised central area containing carved stone grave markers aligned in north/south rows. Ruins of rectangular structure to west of raised central area, having rectangular tomb to side (west) elevation. Entrance to north-west corner comprising square-profile rendered piers with capping and double-leaf wrought-iron gates. Tree lined driveway to north-west having recent rubble stone enclosing wall to north with tooled limestone square-profile piers having battered plinth, chamfered corners and pyramidal capping supporting recent double-leaf wrought-iron gates.

This is a long established ecclesiastical site which is evident from the large sub-oval enclosure that encompasses the graveyard and is locally known as `Glebe Land Round'. An early seventeenth century church on the site was replaced in the early nineteenth century, though neither survive. The graveyard contains many finely carved headstones that are of artistic and social interest with the earliest recorded dating to 1766.
