Crannog in Portanure is a small circular island in Lough Gowna, County Cavan, now reduced to a clump of trees and bushes rising above reeds because lake levels dropped. It still sits fifty metres from the shore, preserving the shape of a place people may have built, lived upon, or abandoned before the water retreated. What is missing is not the island but the life that once moved across it.
