On S side of Blackwater River, c. 1km SSE of Ballyhooly. Millrace taken from mountain stream by weir c. 350m to S. Long rectangular mill (long axis NE-SW) of 3 storeys, with modern roof. Wheel-pit (Wth 2.15m; L 8m) within building near S end; wear marks on sides of pit indicate that it housed a large overshot 15ft by 5ft waterwheel (FFIAS, 15); it now houses a modern pelton-type turbine. Most of gearing and machinery removed, but central 1st-floor room retains bedstone in situ. Attached to mill, at NW side of NE end, is 3-bay 3-storey 'Millvale Cottage'. Collection of machinery from other mills, including Vickers Peters oil engine, cast-iron saw bench and two hydraulic rams (Evans and Vulcan), at site. According to present owner, worked as flax mill by his grandfather. Named 'Flour Mill' and 'Millvale Co' on 1842 OS 6-inch map.
