Constabulary

Situated at the summit of the pass through the Knockmealdown Moutains between Knocknafallia to the W and Knocknasheega to the E, at the E side of the road. Marked 'Constabulary Barracks' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. This is a rectangular enclosure (ext. dims. 15.1m N-S; 10.54m E-W) of masonry walls (H c. 2m; T 0.6m) with cut-stone quoins. The barracks is built against the S and N walls of this court. Direct entry to the S building is through a doorway in the S wall (Wth 1m), and access to the court is in the W wall (Wth 1m). Large windows in the S building have been reduced to narrow lights. This building has a fireplace in the W gable and the N building may have been a stable.
