What is recorded here
Coarse Island in County Mayo lost its boundary when the water retired, dragging a forgotten lake dwelling and its causeway into ordinary shore. It may have begun as a crannog, built from timber and peat to keep intruders out, but the lake no longer proves that much. What remains is a triangular scar in the land, wide enough to walk across and quiet enough to forget.
Coarse Island is recorded as a islet in County Mayo. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
