What is recorded here
Detached seven-bay single-storey former national school, built in 1868, with gabled entrance front. Hipped and pitched slate roof with red brick chimneystacks, vents and cast-iron rainwater goods. Cut limestone walls with tooled limestone quoins and date plaque. Timber sash windows. Flat-headed cut limestone arch to north gabled elevation with timber battened door. Random stone wall divides rear yard. Outdoor public conveniences to rear yard.
Although now its condition has declined, Clooneagh School retains its strong architectural character. The treatment of its exterior with cut limestone masonry, unique roof plan and six-over-six timber sash windows gives this socially important structure aesthetic and technical appeal.
