Cloghstuckagh

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Cloghstuckagh is a pointed granite boulder in County Carlow, Ireland, with five channels descending from its apex. About 1900, digging at its base exposed an urn and bone pin, suggesting the stone marked a place where people once buried what they loved. The five grooves may have guided water, marked days, or simply recorded the patience of rain. Whatever they measured, they still point downward, waiting for someone to watch them fill.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Irregular, pointed granite boulder with five channels descending from apex (H 1.6m). About 1900, 'urn' and bone pin found during digging at base of stone (CW008-016002-) (JRSAI 1939, 101, 104). Aligned E-W. Not visited.
