What is recorded here

Bullaun stone in Kellistown East preserves a single basin and a broken polygonal font inside the church nave. The finished stone likely marked a holy well or baptism place before the building rose around it. People may have touched the basin, poured water or gathered at the edge where the old function still shows. The church did not erase that use; it absorbed the stone and kept the older practice alive.

Likely dating to the early Christian period, the bullaun stone was probably used for baptisms. Such stones are often associated with sacred or ritual use and may have had both Christian and pre-Christian symbolic significance.
