Cremen measured a cramped stone box on McCarthy's land in Clonleigh, holding bones bent like a kneeling person. McCarthy claimed he kept finding similar boxes beneath his fields, suggesting a hidden cemetery rather than a single grave. The narrow dimensions leave little room for doubt about the physical act of burial, even if the exact location has faded from memory.

Long cist cemetery; no exact location. Cremen (1924, 71) examined stone-lined cist on McCarthy's land, measuring '5ft 4in long, 18ins wide and 13ins deep'; removal of covering slab revealed 'a small quantity of human bones'. From position of bones Cremen suggests 'interred in a cramped or kneeling position', and records landowner saying he has frequently uncovered similar sites.
