Church (in ruins)

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 16 December 2009 Revised by: J. Farrelly Unenclosed. Present remains consist of W gable and small portion of S wall of nave of what according to O'Donovan (OSL 1839, 10-11) appeared to have been a nave and chancel church. Of roughly coursed granite boulders with rubble core (nave, min. L 14.5m; Wth 7.9m). Quoins and window jambs removed. Blocked ope in W gable and E splay of ope in S wall. No trace of entrance which O'Donovan described as being in S wall close to W corner. He also suggested that an arch connected nave and chancel (OSL 1839, 10-11). Lying amongst debris in nave is single stone head of narrow round-headed light. No evidence now for chancel. Though no longer visible above ground there is likely to have been a graveyard (CW007-038002-) associated with this church.
