Church in Dogstown (dogstown Par.)

Church

What is recorded here

According to the OS Letters (1840) 'The site of the Parish Church is shewn in a green field in the Townland of Dogstown, but even the graveyard is effaced' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 82 (220)). White (1892, 62-3) equates Dogstown with Kilenevy and states that the church was within the grounds of Rockwell College. He describes how 'Not a stone now remains of either the Church or the wall which enclosed the graveyard' (ibid.). Gwynn and Hadcock (1988, 365) suggest that the site of a monastery at Ibracense stands for Ui Braccain in the region of Cashel and a location for this near the present Rockwell Collage has been mooted. The church and graveyard (TS068-126001-) are unlocated within the townland. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 28 January 2013
