What is recorded here
Childrens Burial Ground is a small, overgrown rectangle in North Galway where limestone and sandstone markers still scatter the grass beside a living stream. The stones sit haphazardly, as if placed quickly by grieving hands rather than measured by surveyors. A disused southeast entrance hides beneath a holly tree, while St Brendan's Well waits sixty metres north, linking childhood loss to older water memory. Local care has since tended the place, proving that even abandoned grief can be returned to human keeping.
In grassland surrounded by a stream to the W and N. On inspection in July 1984, this children's burial ground consisted of an overgrown subrectangular area (WNW-ESE c. 23m, NNE-SSW c. 18m) enclosed by an earthen field bank. Within the interior graves were marked by a number of haphazardly placed set stones of limestone and sandstone. Access was gained at N and an entrance at SE, depicted on the 3rd ed.of OS 6-inch map (1931), was disused and marked by a holly tree. The burial ground subsequently underwent works by a local group. St Brendan's Well (GA032-043----) lies c. 60m to N. (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 109).
