What is recorded here

Children's Burial Ground is a disused burial place in County Cork, Ireland, where children were laid to rest before the land became pasture. The 1842 Ordnance Survey map still marks the name, preserving the identity of the dead and the purpose of the ground. Its abandoned state does not remove the children from the place; it returns the site to silence, memory and the continuing life of the land.
Marked 'Children's Burial Ground" on OS 6-inch map (1842). In pasture. Subrectangular raised area (25m E-W; 19m N-S) enclosed by stone wall to N and E; earth and stone bank to S and W. Rough ground of interior may indicate graves. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
