Charles John Stanley Gough died in Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland, on 6 September 1912, ending a life that had carried him from Indian mutiny fires to British command. The town gave him a quiet grave in St Patrick's Cemetery, a fitting rest for a man who had charged through danger young and led others through it older.
