Cave

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

In a rath (MA071-171001-). This Man-made underground passage is named ‘Cave’ on the 1838 OS 6-inch map, where it is shown against the inner face of the rath bank at NW. A low rise/bank (Wth 3-4m; H 0.5m) encloses a semicircular area (max. dim. c. 5-6m) against the inner face of the rath bank in the NW quadrant. This may be the location of the Man-made underground passage. It is engulfed in overgrowth, difficult to examine, and no structural remains of a Man-made underground passage are visible.
