Standing stone in Brackloon (gallen By.)

In the SW quadrant of a pasture field, in an area of undulating terrain, located at the base of the W slope of a small hillock. To N ground falls away gradually for c. 100m in a small, shallow valley. A stone slab (Wth 0.43m NW–SE; T 0.17m at base, 0.08m at top), roughly rectangular in shape, with slightly rounded edges, set upright in the ground. The currently stands to a height of 0.78m above the ground, but it is leaning markedly to SE, and if fully vertical it would measure 1m in height. The surface is lightly covered in moss and lichen. The antiquity of the stone is uncertain. There are no local traditions associated with it. A small hillock, with a possible enclosure (MA072-040----) on top, stood c. 25-30m to NW but has been entirely levelled. Compiled by: Jane O’ Shaughnessy Date of upload: 4 February 2016
