Byrne's Folly still stands on the old mound where Patrick Byrne built his pirate castle in 1780. Below his stones lies Dún Dealgan, the Fort of Dealga, a pre-Christian place that local story claims as the birthpoint of a great warrior. The lane climbs past a field stone said to mark his burial, turning a private folly into a stage for much older myth.
Castletown Motte is recorded as a archaeological place in County Louth. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
