What is recorded here
Moorfield Castle appeared on the 1655 Down Survey as Gigginstowne, yet no stones remain for modern hands to touch. It vanished before memory could anchor it, leaving only a name and a coordinate. Whatever towers or chambers stood there, they surrendered to soil and forgetting. The survey captured the ghost; the ground erased the proof.
Recorded on the Down Survey (1655-6) and marked 'Gigginstowne', in the vicinity of the present Moorfield House. The monument has not been located.
