Castle, unclassified in Emly, County Tipperary, Ireland. In 1622 the Archbishop of Cashel saw two castles there, the great and the small, with one belonging to the Bishop of Emly. The Civil Survey and Down Survey map kept the old castle visible near the cathedral, but the village still holds more than one ghost and none has surrendered its exact room.

In 1622 the Archbishop of Cashel visited Emly where he reported there were two castles, the 'great and the small', one of which had been the residence of the Bishop of Emly (O'Dwyer and O'Dwyer 1987, 26). The Civil Survey (1654-6) mentions an 'old castle' stands on the lands of Emly (ibid.). A castle (TS065-016----) is also depicted on the Down Survey map (1655-6) as being located NE of the medieval cathedral (TS065-013003-) (ibid.).
