Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Dromiskin House still stands above the buried castle, preserving a boundary between memory and forgetfulness. Whether the castle was a fortress, a residence or a marker for a lost field, it has stopped resisting time and become part the land. The house remembers more than people because it stopped asking the castle to explain itself.
A castle formerly situated in grounds of Dromiskin House (Leslie 1908, 181,185; Love 1964, 353-4). It precise location is not known. The above description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 17 July 2007
