Castle, unclassified in Clonbrogan, County Tipperary, Ireland. On level ground, land rises to W and NW in gently undulating terrain. According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) Clonbrogan has 'a small old castle, wanting repaire' and the proprietor in 1640 was 'Richard Butler of Clonebrogan Irish Papist' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 198). In the grounds of Clonbrogan House there are several limestone architectural fragments of probable 16th-century date, including a chamfered jamb (L 0.37m x Wth

In the grounds of Clonbrogan House there are several limestone architectural fragments of probable 16th-century date, including a chamfered jamb (L 0.37m x Wth 0.25m x T 0.21m) with glazing bar holes, a mullion (L 0.47m) with glazing bar holes and a chamfered window head or sill of a single-light window (Wth of ope 0.15m). Richard Butler held Castle Clonbrogan in 1640, and it was noted as a small, dilapidated structure in need of repair according to the Civil Survey of 1654–56. Its mention in historical surveys provides a rare record of a lesser-known Butler family holding in the region.
