Bleenaleen Lower and Upper hold no visible castle, only a missing stump recorded in 1640. James Tobyn of Killaghy owned that ghost while a slate house waited for state repairs and human breath. The land keeps the shape of what vanished, forcing imagination to build the walls before memory can leave them.

In the Civil Survey (1654-6) under the introduction to the Barony of Slieveardagh 'Blenaleene' is described as having a castle & a slate house repaired at the States charge & inhabitted' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 101). Under the entry for 'Bleanaleene' 'James Tobyn of Killaghy Irish Papist' is listed as the proprietor in 1640 and the castle is described as 'the stump of an old Castle'.
