Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

No exact point on the Limerick landscape still marks Ballywilliam Castle. What survives is a ghost address, a heap of ruins swallowed by time and memory. The castle vanished so completely that even its own townland forgot where it stood.
Exact location of Ballywilliam castle (Westropp 1906-7, 216) not known though described in 1840 as is 'Ballywilliam West Townland' and consisting of 'a confused heap of ruins' (OSL vol. 2, 63). Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
