Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Ballysheedy Castle: unclassified, lost, and still named in two records forty-eight years apart. A castle keeps its shape in the mouth even when the field forgets it.
The precise location of Ballysheeda Castle has not been identified. Westropp (1906-07, 88) recorded the following details about Ballysheedy Castle; '1607 Jas. Fox, C[astle]. of Ballysheeda (Inq. Chan., 378), also in 1655 (C.S., xxix., p. 35)'. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 27 November 2020
Built by James Fox in 1607, as recorded in an inquisition of that year. The castle is remembered primarily through early historical documentation, indicating landownership and local administration in the early 17th century.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
