What is recorded here
Dodwell's brougher and boughan still drop across Ballyglass, but the castle that should stand beside them has vanished from every account. Strafford's 1636 line and Simington's 1949 dot leave a hole where stone, room and guard should be. Perhaps it never rose above the glen, or perhaps it was taken down and the valley forgot the scaffold.
A castle is marked at Ballyglass on the Strafford map of c. 1636 (Simington 1949). It was not encountered.
