Castle Haggardstown vanished beneath County Louth soil, leaving no wall or tower for passing eyes. Excavation revealed four shallow features beside the lost site, perhaps rooms, perhaps holes dug by time itself. The castle withdrew from human memory, keeping its shape hidden beneath grass and rain.

Site of castle known as 'Caisleán Uachtrach Baile Sagairt' (Jordan 1934, 210-2). There is no visible surface remains, but excavation in the vicinity recorded four shallow features that might have been associated with it (Murphy 1995, 64). The above description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991).
