Carn (Site of) is a vanished cairn on a gentle W-facing slope in County Limerick, Ireland, where a man’s skeleton was found standing inside the mound about a hundred years before Lynch wrote. The cairn gave up large portions of itself from time to time, as if feeding the hunger of the living or refusing to be remembered whole. What remains is a lightly uneven patch of pasture and a map label, but the shape of the loss is still visible: a hill that swallowed a mound and a mound that swallowed a man.

Situated on the gentle W-facing slope of a steep hill in rolling pasture, with good views in all directions. The ground is gently uneven in the area of the monument. Marked on the 1923 OS map as 'Carn (Site of)'. Lynch (1911-13, 25-6) refers to a mound at this location where 'from time to time large portions of the mound…have been removed, and about 100 years ago the skeleton of a man, buried in standing position, was found in the mound.'
