Cairn

Situated on the N bank of an E-W stream on a gentle W-facing slope in the NE-SW upper Araglin river valley. Circular heather-covered cairn (diam. 9m; H 0.6-1.3m) with a large central cist (WA014-033030-)(min. dims. 1.6m x 1.6m) formed by single large stones (min. H 0.9m) at E and W, while the other sides are obscured by cairn slip. A possible outlying standing stone (dims. 1.65m x 0.3m; H 1.3m), oriented NW-SE, is c. 30m to the W. Burial cairn (WA014-033012-) is c. 60m to the S, on the other side of the stream. Neolithic burial cairn, dating to approximately 4000–2500 BCE. It is significant as a surviving example of early funerary architecture in the region, containing a central stone cist for inhumation.
