On a low rise in undulating poorly drained pasture within a farmyard, with clear views to the N and W. The ground slopes steeply away at S and W. Hachured and labelled ‘Caherphreeghaun’ on the 1840 and 1916 OS 6-inch maps. The site was in poor condition c. 1910 and it was noted by Westropp (1910, 150) among a group of cahers in the area surviving only as ‘absolutely defaced remains, sometimes all trace gone’. A circular area (int. diam. 20.5m N-S; 19.75m E-W) defined by a drystone wall (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 2.2m) one stone thick (0.6m). There is a modern gap at ENE (Wth 8m). The interior is level and covered in agricultural plastic indicating former use as a silage pit.

Caherphreeghaun, Porsoon is a ringfort, likely dating to the early medieval period, situated on a low rise with historical mapping references from 1840 and 1916. Local tradition associates such sites with fairy folk, and they were often avoided due to beliefs in their supernatural inhabitants.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
