Caher

On a ridge in undulating grassland. Two poorly preserved circular cashels lying 3m apart. The smaller one (D 27m), to NW, is cut by a field wall at NNW and SSE. To SW of this boundary, the monument is defined by a drystone wall overlain by field-clearance rubble. No visible surface trace survives elsewhere. Two set stones are visible within S half of the interior. The SE cashel (D 36m) also appears to have been defined by a drystone wall, now overlain throughout by a later field wall. An earthwork (GA042-059----) lies immediately to WSW of it. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'.
