What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Lodge, County Galway: a circular ridge enclosure, possibly double-walled and about twenty-five metres across, marked on the 1920 OS map but no longer visible, apparently removed by the landowner in the 1950s. Inside it, local tradition places a chambered tomb, so the fort may have wrapped an older death-place in a ring of living boundary. What is gone is not nothing: the ridge still holds the shape of a choice made by people who wanted the dead, the living and the fairies kept distinct.

On a ridge in gently undulating grassland. Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1920) as a circular, possibly bivallate, enclosure (D c. 25m). No visible surface trace survives. Apparently the monument was removed by the landowner in the 1950s. Tradition of a CBG (GA042-185001-) within the interior.
