What is recorded here

Deelis holds a field named for skulls, a blunt reminder that death once belonged to everyone and still does. The name survives even though the exact ground has slipped from modern sight. People may have walked past bones or buried their own there before the place lost its shape. Memory keeps what measurement forgets.

B. Ó Ciobháin recorded the placename 'gort na gcloigeann' (the field of the skulls) in Deelis townland (SMR file). This field has not been precisely located and it is possible that the name implies a burial ground.
