Burial ground in Ahane Beg

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Ahane Beg holds a forgotten church and burial ground on Mrs Murphy's land, marked by four headstones between nine and twenty-eight inches high. The stones still stand though the exact spot has slipped from modern memory, preserving a small cluster of graves beneath ordinary Cork soil.
Bowman (1934, 299) recorded burial ground and church site on Mrs Murphy's land where 'four headstones from 9 to 28 inches high mark the sites of graves.' Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
