Bullaun stone in Annahean

Within the enclosure (MO034-020001-), which is defined by an overgrown scarp NE-S-SW. A crude cross-slab with a ringed cross in relief (MO034-021002-), together with two bullaun stones were present in 1940 and in 1984 (SMR file). These could not be located in 2016 but are probably present in the overgrown perimeter. Date of revised upload: 27 June 2017

Probably dating to the early Christian period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, such as the anointing of the sick with holy water. Such stones are often associated with local saints or folklore traditions involving healing and spiritual protection.
