Bullaun

Bullaun stone

What is recorded here

Bullaun is a missing granite boulder with a single basin, recorded near a Constablehill graveyard but gone when inspectors returned in 1987. It may have been buried, broken, moved or simply lost in the changed field. What remains is a small hole in human memory: a place known only because someone once saw it and wrote it down.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Large granite boulder wth single basin (diam. 0.2m; D 0.3m) near graveyard (CW007-017001-). Probably not in original location, as boulder is not earthfast.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
