What is recorded here

Bridge in Kiltarnaght closed in 1934, reopened in 1936 and closed again in 1937. Even the railway managed an Irish goodbye: coat on, back for one more, then somebody finally got it into the car.

Single-arch railway bridge over lane, built 1893-4; opened 1894; extant 1897. Closed, 1934. Reopened, 1936. Closed, 1937. Now disused. Part creeper- or ivy-covered tuck pointed snecked rock faced limestone or sandstone walls between tuck pointed snecked rock faced limestone or sandstone battered piers with drag edged rock faced cut-limestone stringcourses supporting lichen-covered drag edged rock faced cut-limestone dwarf parapets. Single segmental arch with drag edged rock faced limestone or sandstone ashlar voussoirs centred on drag edged rock faced cut-limestone keystones. Sited spanning land.
A bridge identified as an integral component of the late nineteenth-century civil engineering heritage of the outskirts of Newport on account of the connections with the extension of the Mayo Branch of the Midland Great Western Railway (MGWR) line (opened 1894) by the Midland Great Western Railway (MGWR) Company with the architectural value of the composition confirmed not only by the rock faced dressings demonstrating good quality workmanship, but also by the elegant "sweep" of the arch making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan setting.
