Bridge

What is recorded here

According to Bradley et al. (1986, vol. 2, 141), 'In 1394 the commonalty of Clane received a grant of pontage to construct a stone bridge … (which) may be the one described by Sherlock (1903-5, 38) as a bridge of six arches … built on wattle centring.' It's precise location is unknown, but, presumably, it stood at or close to the present 'Alexandra Bridge' which was built in 1862. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
