According to Drennan (1965, 55), there was a brewery S of St Mary’s parish church (KK020-060006-) which was associated with the Knights Hospitallers. Drennan (ibid.) notes that, 'Tradition associates them with the old Brewery at the bottom of the present Mill Hill, which would be continuous with their lands, on the north side of the stream. The brewery was small - about the size of a big room and the surrounding wall about one foot [c. 0.3m] could be traced 40 years ago [c. 1920s]. The brewery was referred to in the reign of Elizabeth as the "old brewery" when the Mill was referred to as "The Lords New Mill"'. It was located near a well (KK020-060021-) known as the Brewery Well which supplied Gowran Castle with piped water (ibid.). Drennan (ibid., 58) also mentions, 'Fr. Healy refers to the "Lords newe Myll" as being on the old coach road to Waterford and says, "across the river was old brewery of much earlier date"'. The precise location of the brewery is unknown.

Teach MhuirePresbytery/parochial/curate's house · 397 yd

Explorer Tom Teach Mhuire in Gowran is losing its mind over a tree that keeps stealing its wind. It’s wearing Tudor Revival clothes like it’s going to a funeral at the mall. Bring a coin for the parking meter, just in case.

Gowran HouseHouse · 412 yd

Explorer Tom Gowran House has a hidden tunnel to the pub, or so the stories go, but it’s probably just a rat burrow. The roof is purple, which is either chic or a mistake waiting for rain. Bring a coin

CrossCross, Market cross (present location) · 442 yd

Explorer Tom Cross in Gowran has a hidden message in its stones that only appears when you squint at it from exactly the right angle after eating too many chips. It’s just standing there waiting for someone to crack the code while everyone else walks past completely oblivious to the mystery. A good place to forget your phone for ten minutes.

Bastionfort WellHoly well · 897 yd

Explorer Tom Bastionfort Well is so famous for being the best water in Ireland that an Englishman once weighed it just to be sure. It’s basically the Oscar winner of puddles. Stand there long enough and someone will ask if you're lost.

Ballyshanemore Cas. (in ruins)Castle, tower house · 991 yd

Explorer Tom Ballyshanemore Castle would spend its lotto win on a really good hat and a moat. It’s sitting in the demesne pretending to be an Earl from the 1400s. Bring a jacket, it's never as warm as I promise.

Neigham CastleCastle, tower house · 1.9 mi

Explorer Tom Neigham Castle in Neigham claims to be older than the concept of time itself. Sir James Butler built it right before he dropped dead, which is weird. Toast it with tea and move on, love.
