What is recorded here
Detached three-bay three-storey former country house, built c. 1800, now in use as guest house and private house. Single-bay, single-storey addition to rear. Six-bay single-storey former outbuilding attached at right angles to south, now in domestic use. Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks, with rooflights. Pitched slate roofs to attachments, southern having rendered chimneystack. Roughcast rendered walls with render quoins. Painted rendered walls to additions. Square-headed window openings with render surrounds and replacement uPVC windows having painted render sills. Round-headed door opening having render surround, replacement timber panelled door, and fanlight, approached by limestone steps.
This early nineteenth-century former country house, set in a mature landscape, has a classically inspired façade retaining a sombre elegance through the restrained use of ornamentation. The diminishing windows with render surrounds subtly enliven the façade and demarcate the floors externally, and the render quoins articulate the form of the building. The site retains a former outbuilding, which provides context to the site.
