Bonnybrook House

Detached three-bay two-storey farmhouse with dormer attic, c.1775, with two-bay two-storey lower return to west. Renovated and extended comprising single-bay single-storey end bay with dormer attic to left. Pitched slate roofs (gabled to dormer attic window) with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks, rendered coping, and iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Ivy-clad unpainted roughcast walls with rendered stringcourse to first floor. Square-headed window openings (in tripartite arrangement to return) with cut-limestone sills (concrete sills to end bay), and replacement timber casement windows retaining one-over-one timber sash windows to return having one-over-one sidelights (one two-over-two timber sash window). Square-headed door opening with cut-limestone step, and glazed timber panelled door having overlight. Set back from road in own grounds. (ii) Attached four-bay single-storey outbuilding, c.1775, to north with elliptical-headed carriageway to left. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles, and no rainwater goods on dressed rubble stone eaves. Random rubble stone walls with square apertures to eaves. Square-headed door openings with red brick voussoirs, and no fittings. Elliptical-headed carriageway to left with rubble stone voussoirs, and corrugated-iron double doors.

A modest-scale mid to late eighteenth-century farmhouse of unassuming architectural design pretensions retaining most of the original composition attributes together with some of the historic fabric. However, the external expression of the house has not benefited from the insertion of inappropriate replacement fittings to many of the openings. The house remains of additional importance in the locality for the associations with the Walsh family.
