In pasture, on S-facing slope. No visible surface trace of castle of the Nashes listed in the Desmond Roll of 1582 (Westropp 1906-7, 205).
Westropp (1906-7, 205) recorded the following details about Ballynash; 'The Nash family is probably correct in deriving its descent from W. de Naas (1199), the grantee of Carnkital C[astle]. It was settled near Askeaton from at least 1346. In 1582, Ric. Nashe held Ballynashigg C[astle]. (Des. R., 23). 1590 C[astle]. Nash is marked (Hardiman 2). 1620 M. Berkeley settled it on his wife (Inq. Chan., 72b; and Deed P.R.O.I). 1655 Held by Lord Brohill and Mrs. Crofton (C.S., p. 65).
