Ballynaparka Bridge

Two-arch rubble limestone road bridge over river, c.1810. Random rubble limestone walls with lime mortar, rubble stone cut-waters to pier, and rubble stone vertical coping to parapets. Pair of segmental arches with squared rubble limestone voussoirs, and squared rubble limestone soffits having traces of render over. Sited spanning Ballynaparka River with grass banks to river.

An appealing, well-proportioned bridge of modest appearance, which forms an attractive landmark on the Ballynaparka River. The construction in unrefined, locally-sourced limestone serves to integrate the composition into the surrounding landscape, while the civil engineering heritage significance of the bridge is identified by the rendering of the arches, which have retained their original profile.
