What is recorded here
Rath Cunga, an early ecclesiastical foundation in County Donegal, has been reduced to a low rectangular mound on a drumlin, yet it still commands wide views and sits above a holy well. The land has worn the building flat, but it has not erased the shape of the place. A church may have stood there in a time when faith moved quickly through Donegal, and children may have been buried nearby in the ground now called Racoo. The mound remains small, bare and exposed, the kind of mark that invites reverence more than explanation.
The disused Racoo 'Childrens Burial Ground' (DG103-011001-) occupies the site of the early ecclesiastical foundation of Rath Cunga (Gwynn and Hadcock 1970, 400). A low rectangular mound (DG103-011002-) is all that survives of the site now. It is situated on top of a drumlin, commanding wide views, at the base of which is a holy well. (Ó Muirgheasa No. 10)
